Ah makeup, makeup, makeup. Can’t live without ‘em. And definitely cannot live without any foundation!

I’m a fan of lightweight liquid foundation. I prefer texture and viscosity that feel like it’s just “second skin”. I tested this foundation in one of the retail shops (oh my, I can’t believe that I can’t remember where exactly did I buy this) and I really liked how water-like it was. So I bought one (hmmm, probably in Sephora, Aeon, Isetan, Metrojaya…).

I’ve been using this for more than a month now and I’m enjoying how easy it is to blend and spread on the face. I normally apply it using wet beauty sponge and it easily gets absorbed by the skin. However, if you prefer full coverage, this might be a bit light for you. Although it says that coverage is from medium to full, I find that it might be light if there are dark spots that you want to blur. I do apply concealer before this foundation to even out some spots.

Estee Lauder Crescent White Hydra-Bright Essence Makeup
SPF30 / PA++
How much: RM205 / 30ml
My shade: 1C0 Cool Porcelain

Made in Belgium. Use within 24 months after opening.
Created for and tested on Asian skin in Asia.

It comes in a plastic bottle with frosted finish, looks like frosted glass until you touch it. The cap serves as dropper so you can dispense the liquid in controlled amount.

Here’s a closer look at the dropper

Look at those drops. Aren’t they pretty to look at?

My steps on how to apply this foundation:
1. Cleanse your face and neck. Pat dry.
2. Apply your usual skincare products: toner, essence, moisturiser and eye cream.
3. Apply your makeup base.
4. Based on your preference and need, apply concealer on target areas of your face.
5. Dispense 2-3 drops of Crescent White Hydra Bright Essence Makeup on your palm.
6. Using a beauty sponge, dab the foundation onto your face up to jawline and neck. Blend in circular motions until even.
7. If needed, dispense another 1-2 drops and apply on selected areas.
8. Finish with translucent or face powder.

Throughout the day, this foundation feels great on the skin. No caking. My skin feels moisturised and I do notice slight brightening of some spots over the past weeks. It’s not massive impact but the foundation does function as makeup and skincare at the same time. Works great for me.

It seems though that it’s not easy to find this specific product online except Amazon. I’m not sure if it’s still available in major retail stores but if in case you are looking for it, Amazon might be able to ship it to Malaysia.

Claim your Rewards now with ShopBack and Hermo Malaysia

I kept hearing about ShopBack from my gorgeous Head of Digital Marketing named Rowena (Haha! Sorry, Rowena, if you’re reading this, I can’t help but mention your name…see, I don’t ignore what you’re talking about.) Being an online shopper like me, although maybe not as notorious, she enjoys discovering great ways to be rewarded from spending online. Since I keep hearing about ShopBack, I knew I just had to investigate.

What are the usual online sites that you shop from? I’m a beauty junkie but my shopping needs are not limited to beauty sites alone. I do look for device and gadgets, kids stuff, health products, flights, accommodations, stock shots and more. Name an online site and I’ve probably shopped there! To name a few:

  • 11street
  • Agoda
  • AirAsia
  • Amazon
  • Dreamstime
  • eBay
  • FoodPanda
  • GemFive
  • Groupon
  • Guardian
  • HappyFresh
  • Hermo
  • Hermo
  • Lazada
  • MySale
  • Sephora
  • Shutter stock
  • Signature Snack
  • Watsons
  • Wine Talk
  • Zalora

I spent time today checking the site and exploring what ShopBack does. The concept is pretty simple and amazing: shop online with ShopBack stores and get cashback rewards through your ShopBack account, which are then transferred to your preferred bank account. With whatever value you spend, based on each store’s ShopBack offer, you get rewards! This cashback site gives you savings online!

It’s easy to earn money back. From the long list of available stores at ShopBack, I’d say it’s impossible for a lot of us not to find at least 10 brands or stores to shop from. After you’ve created a ShopBack account, simply click on the store that you want to shop from, ensure that you shop on that URL so ShopBack can track your purchase, proceed with your purchase on that store and that’s it! You can check your ShopBack rewards within 4 – 48 hours.

Discover how to get started with this video:

I’ve checked 2 online beauty sites: Hermo and Sephora (but of course!). Hermo gives customers up to 5.6% cashback. If you’re an existing customer, you get 4.2% cashback while a new customer gets 5.6%. You can enjoy cashback with the latest Hermo voucher easily through ShopBack. Some of the beauty brands you can shop for at Hermo are Acca Kappa, B.liv, Bioderma, Clinelle, Cyber Colors, Dr. Wu, Garnier, H2O+, Kate, Kose, L’Oreal, Laneige, Lierac, Physiogel, Talika and The Face Shop.

This is a great time to earn cashback from Hermo, look at the collection they recently featured. It’s Disney’s Alice in Wonderland beauty collection!

Hermo has regular deals, it’s best to check on your favorite products and brands from time to time.

Sephora is also one of the numerous stores with ShopBack rewards. New customers get 8.0% cashback, existing customers get 2.0%. Oh man, all the rewards I’ve missed from my Sephora shopping! Great brands from Sephora include Benefit Cosmetics, Burberry, Clinique, Caudalie, Dr. Jart, Ecotools, GlamGlow, Julie Hewett, Lancome, REN, Sigma Beauty, SK-II, Too Faced, Urban Decay and Zoeva. I’m a fan of makeup brushes from Zoeva and Sigma Beauty, I buy them from Sephora online (previously Luxola). I should have been shopping with ShopBack where you can also find the best Sephora coupons

Now I’m wishing that I listened to Rowena a lot earlier. I could have collected more rewards from my online shopping sprees! Why why why didn’t I pay attention long time ago?

Start getting rewarded through ShopBack and collect money back from shopping. Make the most out of your dollars / ringgit by getting rewards.

SK-II Pitera Facial Essence Product Review

I finally took the step to test this bestselling beauty product…why is this so popular and is it worth it?

Since I arrived in Malaysia 5 years ago, SK-II has been one of the most prominent skincare brands in this country. I wasn’t really familiar with this brand before as it is not available in the Philippines, at least not before I left. The brand has such strong marketing presence and highly influential brand ambassadors that included Cate Blanchett. Oh, who doesn’t admire Cate, with her timeless beauty, grace and impeccable sense of fashion?
Of course, I admit that I got interested to try the brand, mainly because of its Facial Essence. It promises skin transformation in 14 days, making spots less visible, appearance of wrinkles reduced, and making the skin radiant. I bought a Pitera Essence set for my mother-in-law before and I noticed a remarkable improvement on the radiance of her skin. After finishing that first set, I bought a second set for her and bought one for myself, too.

Made in Japan
Price: RM229
Where to buy:
SK-II counters in major department stores – Isetan, Parkson, Metrojaya, Aeon
Sephora boutiques
SK-II Pitera Essence Set contains:
SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion 30ml
How to use – After cleansing the skin, pour an appropriate amount (approximately 3 cm diameter) of Clear Lotion onto cotton pad. Gently wipe over T-zone, followed by U-zone from center outwards, then over neck.
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence 75ml
How to use – After toning the skin, pour an appropriate amount (slightly larger than the diameter of the cap) of Essence onto cotton pad. Gently pat onto face and neck.
SK-II Facial Treatment Mask 1pc
How to use – Place mask over eye area first, then gently spread over face and pat firm. Remove mask after 5-15 minutes. Discard mask after use.
I’ve used up the Clear Lotion and the Treatment Mask. These are both good products although it’s hard for me to fully evaluate, as the size of the lotion may not have been enough to show results while the 1-piece mask does give that instant hydration effect after use.
As for the Facial Essence, I’ve been using it for 3 months now. I’m not a big fan of the scent of the essence itself but it dissipates in a few seconds anyway so it’s not a big deal. The essence is water-like both in color and viscosity. It feels clean and light, easily absorbed by the skin.
After first 2 weeks of use, it’s sad to say that I didn’t notice much change on my skin. I know that a skincare product’s speed of efficacy may vary from person to person, and this doesn’t necessarily mean that the product is not working so I patiently continued to use it. After 1 month, I did notice that my skin’s texture and radiance have improved. And on my 2nd month of use, I noticed that spots are diminishing, although not completely gone.
I’ve seen good results but somehow on my third month, it’s just on ‘maintenance’ phase, as I don’t notice improvements anymore. I also find that the progress of results took longer than expected or as promised. I’m happy that my skin improved, especially with the diminished spots, however, I expected better. Considering that SK-II is probably the top brand in the country and that it’s mid-priced, I thought that results will be amazing or surprising, within at least a month. I find that it took long to see changes from the Facial Essence. Will I buy it again? Hmmm, I’d probably try something else with my RM229.

Make Up For Ever Pro-Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation

No matter how good liquid or cream foundation is, I still need a good powder foundation to complete my face finish

Oh, what would our photos be without foundation or at least a photo filter that creates the illusion of flawless skin like having foundation on?
I bought this Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation at its boutique in Sephora Starhill, together with the Mist & Fix Make-Up Fixer Mist. It comes in a sleek black compact with a black box.

The compact has a compartment for the powder itself and the sponge: the powder on top compartment and sponge under. I’m not a big fan of this compact style because I need to keep lifting the powder part to get the sponge and somehow the movement keeps tapping the powder compartment. Eventually, this might make the compact powder break. It would have been better if the sponge was on top and the powder was under. But this is Make Up For Ever foundation and I wanted to give it a try.

I picked color 125 (Beige Rose/Pink Rose), well, technically, the beauty consultant recommended it to me. This foundation has a 24-month life-after-opening period (if this is new to you, it simply means that after start of use or opening, you can use it for the next 24 months).
I’ve been using Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation for several months now. I am enjoying the texture and finish on my skin. I normally apply this after using my liquid or cream foundation, it works well with Guerlain Lingerie de Peau.

The sponge is great to use but, of course, if you want a more flawless application, it’s best applied with a face powder brush. This multi-use foundation can be applied both in wet or dry application. If you are comfortable with sheer foundation effect, you don’t even need a liquid foundation. You can simply wet the sponge and apply the multi-use powder. Both with wet or dry application, this foundation lasts great through the day, although I still retouch once in a while because I love the freshly made makeup look and I have oily skin.
And definitely, after finishing my makeup, I apply the Mist & Fix. It works wonders on keeping my foundation in place.

Makeup Style using The Butterfly Project Beauty Box

Trying new beauty products is always fun! Combined with some of my loved items, these products that I haven’t tried before have become even more interesting.
Last December, I had a fun evening with fellow butterflies at The Apartment, The Curve. The Butterfly Project, headed by Tammy Lim, gave a celebration where both fresh and seasoned bloggers had a great time, great dinner and great opportunity to meet new friends. Luckily, I was free to join the group on that weekday dinner.
Aside from the Secret Santa gift-giving session, I also received a beauty box from the group. Thanks to all the generous sponsors who worked closely with the group and brought us happy cheers and, of course, new beauty products to try.
It’s exciting to explore different makeup looks by combining different products or brands. But at the same time, it’s also fun to mix and experiment with the new products together with those that you already have and love. Like a lot of you, I also have my favorites when it comes to skincare or makeup.

Some of my loved products include GlamGlow ThirstyMud, Makeup ForEver Mist & Fix, Nars Eye Paint, Nars Dual Eye Shadow and Maybelline Color Tattoo. And I decided to mix these with some of the items from my butterfly beauty box: Shizens Lip Tattoo, Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner and Always 21 Soothing Gel Mist.

Starting with smooth, healthy skin makes a lot of difference on how makeup can accentuate or complement your look. I love using GlamGlow ThirstyMud to do my regular mask routine. It’s quite addicting so I limit it to twice a week. After washing off ThirstyMud, I spray Always 21 Soothing Gel Mist on my face and apply a moisturizer (I’m using Mario Badescu at the moment). Afterwards, I apply my makeup primer, foundation, pore minimizer and face powder (not included in photo shot).

Now it’s time for my eye makeup. I’ve been loving my Nars eye paint and dual eyeshadow since last year, and I don’t think I can live without them. I’ve also started to use Maybelline Color Tattoo and it works well in making my eye color more vibrant and longer lasting. From the butterfly beauty box, I used the Dolly Wink Eyeliner, which has a pen style application.

The Dolly Wink eyeliner has good color results and very easy to apply on the skin. It has a cute, dotted pink packaging, with a pen cap.

On my lips, I used ShizensLip Tattoo, which came from The Butterfly Project beauty box. I’ve reviewed this lip product a few weeks ago and I loved its long lasting color on the lips. Great thing about this Lip Tattoo is that it makes the lips look naturally rosy through the day and keeps the lips moisturized. I now use it every morning together with different lip colors.
And here’s my quick 15-minute makeup look with a mix of my new and loved beauty products:

What are your favorite makeup products? Those that you must always have in your makeup kit? Thanks once again to The Butterfly Project for organizing events to meet friends and to explore more beauty products!

GlamGlow YouthMud – Facial in a Jar

Lights…camera…action. Designed as a professional ‘facial in a jar’ for behind-the-scenes use in Hollywood’s Entertainment, GlamGlow promises instant camera-ready skin in 10 minutes. Can this be for real?

I don’t regularly exfoliate before. I guess I also get lazy or busy to be bothered by a twice-a-week treatment. But exfoliation is essential in maintaining a healthy, glowing skin. Even though we regularly cleanse, moisturize and apply serums, without exfoliation, our skin can get rough and dull. Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. When dead skin cells are removed, the skin looks younger and healthier with new skin cells.
As we get older or as years pass by, the process of cell renewal tends to get slower, meaning dead skin cells stay longer on the surface of the skin and it takes longer time to generate new cells. This results to dull, dry, rough or older-looking skin.  So if we want to keep our skin healthy or improve its appearance, we need to work harder and find the time to exfoliate on a regular basis.
Finding time is always a challenge, isn’t it? But GlamGlow YouthMud promises results in 10 minutes for radiant, glowing skin while it also provides gentle resurfacing exfoliation. If you haven’t heard of GlamGlow, just Google it and you’ll see lots of images showing faces with gray mud on. You can also check it out at Sephora.
GlamGlow has 4 different products available: SuperMud, ThirstyMud, BrightMud for eyes, and YouthMud, which I am reviewing here.

YouthMudTM Tinglexfoliate Treatment
RM240, 50g
Available at Sephora boutiques
Leaves skin noticeably radiant and glowing
Activates collagen synthesis
Provides gentle resurfacing exfoliation
Helps to leave skin smoother, brighter and softer
Provides tighter skin texture and tighter pores
Helps to provide a more youthful appearance
Absorbs impurities without removing natural oils
Helps to protect against free radical damage

How is it packed:
Like the ThirstyMud I’ve reviewed recently, GlamGlow YouthMud also comes in a matte box. This one is a combination of solid black and silver text, an easily recognizable signature of GlamGlow’s packaging style. On the front panel, a sticker saying ‘World’s Best Mask Winner’ is very visible, making me even more intrigued about this claim.
GlamGlow YouthMud has an inner card tray where the glamorous black jar sits nicely. The card tray reminds me of a photo wall where celebrities (or media guests) would stand against for photo ops. Oh, this is so Hollywood.
A brochure and info leaflet are provided together inside the box. Instructions on the small info leaflet are in different languages.

Upon opening the box, you’ll be welcomed by a sweet greeting, ‘Hello Sexy’, just like ThirstyMud. Now, that’s something every man and woman would enjoy reading, huh. Love this concept.

The black jar cover is topped with a silver star, reminiscent of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

The jar is sealed for protection, to maintain freshness of the mud and prevent spills. My advice is don’t remove the entire seal. Just open it halfway so you can seal it back afterwards. This will prolong the life of your YouthMud and prevent spills even when you travel with it.

The mud mask itself is in muddy gray color. Take note, it may darken and thicken over time. To re-liquefy, you just need to add a few drops of purified water and stir.

GlamGlow YouthMud contains the following potent ingredients for gentle resurfacing exfoliation:
Green Tea – brightens complexion, protects against free radicals, hydrates, balances oil production
Volcanic Pumice Rock & Minerals – detoxifies and awakens skin
French Sea Clay – provides delightful tingle sensation triggering 12 hours of collagen synthesis
Teaoxi – delivers a blend of time-release antioxidants containing fresh Super-Squalene, EGCG Super-Antioxidants & Polyphenols directly into the mud from real pieces of tea leaf in the jar
*Contains NO sulfates, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs or Triclosan

How to use YouthMud:

  1. Cleanse your face
  2. Gently stir your YouthMud prior to application (I use a small plastic spoon or spatula to stir and scoop)
  3. Using your finger, apply a thin layer of YouthMud all over your face
  4. Leave it on for 10 minutes, expect a ‘tingle-tastic tightening’ sensation
  5. Remove mask with water, applying circular motions while washing to exfoliate
  6. Use twice a week for glam-tastic skin

I’ve done a short video review of this wonderful mud mask, hope you’ll it!

Some may find it filthy-looking while the YouthMud is on the face but that’s just how this works. You can even see small pieces of green tea leaves all over the face.

Then you chill for a while. I love the tightening sensation. After almost 10 minutes, the mud will be dry, turning into a lighter gray color. It’s hard for me to smile here because the mud has dried up, haha!

DID 10 MINUTES of GLAMGLOW do the trick?
It’s no surprise why celebrities love this product! At first, I was skeptical if a 10-minute mask treatment can really do wonders on the skin, but GlamGlow YouthMud does.

It’s easy to fall in love with the tightening feeling. The gentle resurfacing exfoliation makes the skin so smooth and refreshed in 10 minutes. The skin feels tighter, looks radiant and brighter.

This mask is definitely a must-have for every guy and gal! It can be your rescue product for very important events, especially when you have no time to go for a facial spa or treatment.

My bare face, no moisturizer, no toner or serum, no photo-editing, just my skin after YouthMud

 GlamGlow ThirstyMud

GlamGlow ThirstyMud Product Review

Got thirsty skin? Does GlamGlow live up to its promise of super hydration in 10-20 minutes? This article contains written and video review…

A few weeks ago, I was introduced to the much raved about mud mask brand, GlamGlow. GlamGlow, Sephora’s #1 seller of quick-fix skincare products currently sold in 56 countries, has recently launched another innovative product called the ThirstyMud. Sounds cool? Well, let’s see.
It is important for our skin to stay hydrated, especially once you reach my age of 30+. As we age, the skin tends to be more prone to dry skin; leading to premature aging, fine lines, wrinkles and eventually creases (no!). When the skin doesn’t have sufficient hydration, it becomes prone to irritation, itchiness and other diseases as it lacks the moisture barrier to protect itself from outside elements. Hydration is important in maintaining healthy and youthful skin.
But we all are too busy or lazy sometimes, aren’t we? We want fast solutions, immediate results or quick fixes. I do try to stick to my daily routine of day and night skincare. I haven’t even gone for a facial in years! I admit that work and family responsibilities come first so if there is actually a product that can provide instant results, I’m just soooo excited to try! If you could have magnificent skin in 20 minutes, without going to the spa or facial salon, wouldn’t it be worth a try?

NEW! ThirstyMudTMHydrating Treatment
RM240, 50g
Available at Sephora boutiques

  • provides deep instant, extreme hydration for long, medium and short term results
  • hydrates, moisturizes, restores, replenishes and calms for instant super sexy skin
  • can be used during the day, at night or while in-flight
  • ideal for both men and women
How is it packed:

I’m in love with this matte blue box, combined with silver accents on some texts and borders. It just feels and looks so elegant, like a true star product. When you lift the top cover, you’ll be welcomed by a ‘HELLO SEXY’ greeting, making you feel beautiful and gorgeous as you are. I love the motivation of this message. I agree that everyone is sexy in his or her own way.

The box contains a product brochure and information leaflet. The blue and silver jar sits like a queen on inner card tray, with silver text and star accents. Isn’t that really sexy?

The jar cover has a silver star on top, making it look even more ‘Hollywood-ish’. Removing the cover, you’ll see an extra white cap to prevent spills, especially when it’s travelling with you.

The mud mask itself is of a light brown color, oozing with sweet coconut aroma. Try this on your skin and you’d want to lick it. It smells really delicious.

GlamGlow ThirstyMud contains the following potent ingredients for advanced hydration:
DewDration 2% – provides long-term hydration with a powerful trio of liquid acids designed to provide the most significant hydration and barrier actives; provides the deepest skin penetration for an instant dewy, youthful result.
HydraPack 7% – provides medium-term hydration with an innovative creation of specialized hydration actives to refresh and nourish depleted skin. It leaves the skin with an instant silky, soft and supple feel.

GreenEnergy 3% – provides short-term hydration with a combination of powerful natural ingredients for immediate skin conditioning. It leaves the skin smooth and energized.

Teaoxi Ground Olive Leaf – patented active technology for instant super sexy skin.

Another thing I love about GlamGlow ThirstyMud is that you can use it while in-flight. Ever noticed that your skin tends to be dull and dry while travelling? The ThirstyMud can be your flight companion. You simply apply it before or even during the flight, rest and chill, then wipe it off upon landing or just leave it on.

How to use ThirstyMud:
  • Cleanse your face
  • Apply an even layer of ThirstyMud all over your face, neck and decollete

  • Leave it on for 10-20 minutes
  • Wipe it off with tissue and massage the remaining product into skin OR
  • Wash it off with water

  • Leave on to infuse the skin with moisture and wake up with extremely hydrated skin

  • Apply at the beginning of the flight and leave on for flight or travel duration

Here’s a short video review of GlamGlow ThirstyMud, hope you’ll like it!
So this is how ThirstyMud looked on my face…then I chilled and relaxed for 20 minutes. Maybe lie down on the bed or start drafting a blog article…
My bare face after ThirstyMud. No makeup, no moisturizer, no editing.

I washed it off with water, as I’m more comfortable with this method. And OMG, I love how my skin feels! Really smooth, silky and supple. Almost feels like baby skin! And this was only my first time use.

My naughty son had a kick from GlamGlow event’s blue cupcake, thanks GlamGlow & The Butterfly Project!
GlamGlow ThirstyMud did live up to its promise of instant hydration and even more. It’s amazing. The price might seem a bit high for some but you can compare it with the time and convenience of having facial spa results at the comfort of your home or flight instead of spending time and money at a real spa. Of course, you can still do both and make GlamGlow ThirstyMud a complementary product to your facial routine.
I’m already excited to continue using ThirstyMud as part of my weekly routine. This can be used 2-3 times a week or as needed (if you have an event, wedding or important function to attend). I’d also try leaving it overnight and see the difference it can do to my skin.
And don’t forget, you can use this on your partner, boyfriend or husband, too!

I’ve also tested GLAMGLOW YouthMud. Stay tuned for my article and video review!
